Privacy policy for IoT with ESP

Last updated: February 4, 2026

This site is a personal technical blog about ESP32 and IoT projects. We take your privacy seriously and keep things simple.

🔗What we collect

This site does not use cookies, tracking pixels, or any form of personal data collection. There are no forms, accounts, or sign-ups.

We use GoatCounter for basic, privacy-friendly analytics. GoatCounter does not use cookies, does not track you across sites, and does not collect personal data. It records only:

  • The page URL visited
  • The Referer header (which site linked you here)
  • The User-Agent header (browser and OS type)
  • Screen size
  • Country (derived from your IP address, which is not stored)

No personal information is collected or stored. GoatCounter is open source and you can read their privacy policy for full details.

🔗Third-party requests

Most resources (fonts, scripts, stylesheets, images) are served directly from our own server. The only third-party request made automatically is a small analytics script loaded from gc.zgo.at (GoatCounter), described above. If you click an affiliate link, you will be taken to Amazon or AliExpress, which set their own cookies as described in the Affiliate links section below.

🔗Local storage

The site saves a single theme preference (light/dark/auto) in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not personal data.

🔗Server logs

This site is hosted on DreamHost. Like all web servers, DreamHost may log standard access data (IP addresses, timestamps, pages requested, user agent strings). These logs are managed by DreamHost under their privacy policy. We do not access or process these logs for tracking purposes.

Some articles contain links to products on Amazon and AliExpress. These are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you make a purchase through them — at no extra cost to you. These programs include:

  • Amazon Associates — when you click an affiliate link to Amazon, a cookie is set on amazon.com (or the regional Amazon store, such as amazon.de or amazon.co.uk) that identifies our site as the referral source. This cookie tracks your subsequent purchases for commission purposes and typically expires after 24 hours. Amazon may collect additional data according to their own privacy policy.
  • AliExpress Affiliate Program — when you click an affiliate link to AliExpress, a cookie is set on aliexpress.com that identifies our site as the referral source. This cookie tracks your purchases for commission purposes. AliExpress may collect additional data according to their own privacy policy.

We do not receive any personal data from Amazon or AliExpress. We only see aggregate reports (e.g. number of clicks, items ordered, commissions earned). We never know who you are or what you purchased individually.

We only link to products we actually use or recommend in our tutorials. Affiliate income helps support the cost of running this site. You are never obligated to use these links — feel free to search for the same products directly.

Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.
